Kathryn Weil Center for Education and Spirit of Women ask ‘Are You Baffled By Cancer?'

The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and the Spirit of Women are hosting a program that will help community members become "unbaffled" by cancer issues in both men and women.

The Kathryn Weil Center for Education will present "Are You Baffled By Cancer?" at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Kathryn Weil Center for Education in Lafayette.

"Are You Baffled By Cancer" will include presentations on cancer, risks, treatments, types of cancer, dietary issues and positive attitudes. Speakers and topics include:

Nancy DiMartino, M.D., Lafayette Cancer Care, will discuss the physiology of cancer, cancer risks, how to reduce your risks and the most frequent types of cancer.
■Shraddha Chaubey, M.S., R.D., C.D., registered dietitian/nutritionist and founder and president of NutriPledge, will show you foods that may help reduce your cancer risks.
■ Nancy Eberhard, M.Div., bereavement coordinator with St. Elizabeth Hospice, will discuss the healing effects of a positive attitude.
■Heather Askren, NP-C, R.N., OCN, an adult nurse practitioner with Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health's Oncology and Palliative Care Services, will distribute free colo-rectal screening kits. Cancer and emphysema information will also be available.

The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health are members of the Spirit of Women, a national coalition of hospitals and health care providers that pledge to provide the highest standards of excellence in women's health, education and community outreach.

This special Spirit of Women program is free to members; members may bring their spouse or a guest free of charge. There is a $5.00 fee for non-members not attending with a Spirit of Women member.

This program is the first of several programs throughout September, October and November designed to educate community members on various cancer issues.
