What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is an allied health profession tasked with developing, recovering, or maintaining the daily living and work skills of individuals. Today, Occupational Therapists must obtain a masters degree from an accredited educational program and hold a license from the state in which they practice. At LRS, our Occupational Therapists work primarily with the upper extremity, the shoulder to the fingers. Two of our three Occupational Therapists have obtained the advanced certification of being a Certified Hand Therapist. Therapist that have obtained this certification are required to work for 5 years in a hand therapy setting and then pass the challenging National Hand Examination. We are proud of their accomplishments and hope to help our third staff member achieve this distinction once they meet the criteria to take the examination.

When seeing Occupational Therapy at LRS, the staff member will evaluate you and then create a plan of treatment. This will include treatment goals for the patient. You may see more than one of the therapists during your treatment period at LRS. In addition to caring for the upper extremity, two of our Occupational Therapists also work with patients who have problems with dizziness and the vestibular system.
