We help the patient learn movement and positioning techniques to decrease pain. Since 1998 in addition to traditional therapeutic exercises, LRS Spine has used modified Pilates exercises and equipment. It incorporates the latest evidence based techniques to retrain the muscles supporting the spine. The patient's posture analyzed and corrected to produce a more balanced spine.
A new patient to Lafayette Rehab Spine begins with a comprehensive evaluation. A patient's muscular strength is measured with a handheld gauge so the results can readily be seen by therapist and patient alike. Scores increase as the patient's strength progresses. Patient's flexibility is also measured and deficiencies addressed. The HiVaMat, a form of electrical stimulation, is used for pain relief when appropriate. This modality was developed in Germany to decrease spasm and swelling. Traction, biofeedback, and kinesio-taping are other treatment methods that are utilized to promote resolution of symptoms and the correction of postural alignment.
Lafayette Rehab Spine places an emphasis on patient education to enhance their recovery. It has created its own educational films to further increase the patient's understanding of spinal mechanics and improved ergonomic behavior. Lafayette Rehab Spine also shares education on various equipment that helps reduce pain and correct posture which patients can use daily. This includes analyzing a patient's computer setup to improve body mechanics and decrease joint and muscle stress.
Our goal is to help the patient understand that the long-term commitment needed to care for the spine is equal to the short-term goal of pain relief.
We treat everyone from student athletes to retirees with the same expectations: restore pain free function and improve understanding of the spine.
