Unity Healthcare and Jasper County Hospital to Expand Specialty Care Services

Lafayette, Ind. - June 13, 2011- Unity Healthcare and Jasper County Hospital have formalized an agreement to expand specialty care at the Hospital. The agreement, effective immediately, will allow the organizations to jointly develop new specialty services to be delivered at the Hospital. Those services include increased access to surgeons, primary care physicians, as well as expanded services in imaging and other departments.

Hospital President/CEO Tim Schreeg stated, "This agreement combines our recent expansion of the Hospital with physicians who are affiliated with Unity Healthcare and will result in greater access to medical care in Rensselaer. Our Strategic Plan, developed with the assistance of the Board of Trustees, included expansion of specialty services, something which will be realized in the coming months." The collaboration is not a merger or sale of Jasper County Hospital and will not affect the ownership or management of the facility.

"We are excited to partner with Jasper County Hospital and to expand our specialty care to the residents of Rensselaer and Jasper County," said Jason Burgett, M.D., Unity Healthcare's Board President. "Many Unity physicians have long-standing relationships with area residents. We look forward to working with the local physicians of Jasper County to improve the quality of specialized healthcare."

Jasper County Hospital is constructing a $16.5 million addition to and renovation of the Hospital which will include four new surgical rooms, minor surgery room, Sleep Laboratory, Oncology Department and expanded imaging and laboratory services. The Addition will be occupied in June 2011, with the remainder of the project opening in late 2011.

"We believe in keeping the delivery of specialty and primary care local," said Bruce Wood, Hospital Board of Trustees Chairman. "This affiliation will allow us to expand specialty care, modernize our facility and provide more services to our patients."
